Tel Jezreel
Mountain Archaeological tell at biblical Jezreel with layered ruins
An archaeological tell in the Jezreel Valley, Tel Jezreel draws people for excavated remains, biblical associations and wide valley views popular with hikers and history-minded visitors.
Tel Jezreel is an archaeological tell in the Jezreel Valley of northern Israel that preserves multi-period remains, including Bronze Age and Iron Age occupation. It is associated with the ancient city named Jezreel in historical sources.
Excavated areas expose stone foundations, defensive features and occupation layers; trenches and cleared sections show the layout of acropolis and adjacent settlement levels. The mound is studied for its role in regional settlement and administration during the second and first millennia BCE.
The site was used and rebuilt over many centuries, leaving a stratified record important to Near Eastern archaeology. Excavations conducted in the 20th and 21st centuries have documented its sequence of occupation and material culture.
