Teen Murti Bhavan is a historic government bungalow in New Delhi that became the official residence of India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. The site was converted into a national museum and research library in 1964.
The complex contains preserved residential rooms and exhibition galleries that present Nehru’s life and India’s independence-era history, including personal items and period furnishings. The on-site library holds collections and archives for research on modern Indian history. The grounds include lawns and a memorial area with sculptural groups that give the site its name.
Constructed in the early 20th century as a high-ranking official’s residence, the building became Jawaharlal Nehru’s official home after Indian independence in 1947. After Nehru’s death the house and grounds were converted into the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library in 1964 and have been maintained as a public institution since then.
Located on Teen Murti Marg in central New Delhi within the diplomatic Chanakyapuri area, the complex sits in the capital’s administrative district and is easily reachable from central New Delhi neighborhoods.
