Teatre Nacional de Catalunya

Teatre Nacional de Catalunya (TNC) is the national theatre company and building for Catalonia, located in Barcelona. The modern complex opened in 1996 and was created to provide a dedicated home for stage drama and large-scale theatrical productions in the region.

The building contains multiple performance spaces including a large proscenium auditorium and at least one smaller studio theatre, as well as foyers and public circulation areas used for exhibitions and events. The complex presents a mixed programme of drama, contemporary theatre and touring productions, with a strong emphasis on Catalan-language work.

The TNC building was designed by Ricardo Bofill’s studio and occupies a site on Plaça de les Arts in Barcelona’s Eixample district, close to major city thoroughfares and public transport.
