The Arc de Triomf in Barcelona is a monumental red-brick triumphal arch built as the main ceremonial entrance to the 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition. Designed by architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas, it is notable for its Neo-Mudéjar style and decorative sculptural reliefs.

The monument comprises a central arched opening flanked by smaller arches and ornamented with stone reliefs and allegorical sculptures; the top of the arch and its friezes carry sculptural programs celebrating the city and the exposition. The arch forms the northern end of a broad pedestrian promenade that leads directly to the Parc de la Ciutadella and is a frequent route for tourists and locals.

It was completed in 1888 specifically for the exposition and has since remained a civic landmark and frequent photographic subject in Barcelona. The structure occupies a prominent urban position in the Eixample/Ciutadella area and is easily reached on foot or by public transport.

The Arc de Triomf stands at the junction of Passeig de Lluís Companys and Passeig de Sant Joan, close to the Parc de la Ciutadella in central Barcelona.

Barcelona’s Arc de Triomf is on Passeig de Lluís Companys. Take Barcelona Metro Line 1 (L1) to Arc de Triomf station or arrive by Cercanías/Rodalies at Estació d’Arc de Triomf, then it’s a very short walk to the monument. From Plaça de Catalunya it’s an easy 10-15 minute walk along Passeig de Sant Joan/Passeig de Lluís Companys.

• Visit in the morning or late afternoon for softer light and fewer pedestrians along the promenade; midday sees more tourists and local traffic.
• Use the nearby Arc de Triomf train/metro stop (Arc de Triomf) to arrive - it drops you right at the pedestrian promenade leading toward Parc de la Ciutadella.
• Walk the long promenade toward Parc de la Ciutadella and look closely at the decorative reliefs on the arch: many visitors pass by without exploring the adjoining streets and park connections into El Born.
