Tauride Palace

Tauride Palace is an 18th century Neoclassical palace in central Saint Petersburg, originally built for Prince Grigory Potemkin. Construction took place between 1783 and 1789 under architect Ivan Starov, and the building is one of the city’s large private palaces from that period.

The palace houses large formal halls and exhibition spaces and sits next to an extensive public garden. The building has served various public and governmental functions, and its scale and interior halls are a principal draw for visitors to central Saint Petersburg.

The palace was constructed for Potemkin in the late 18th century and later changed ownership and function several times; in the early 20th century it hosted parliamentary assemblies and in the Soviet period it housed cultural institutions. In recent decades it has been used for conferences and official events.

The complex sits in central Saint Petersburg close to the city centre and is adjacent to the Tauride Garden. It is within the urban core of Saint Petersburg and easily reached from central transport hubs.
