Tateshina Yama (Mount Tateshina) is a conical mountain in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, reaching about 2,531 metres and forming part of the northern Yatsugatake range. It is a recognisable symmetrical peak often visited for its mountain views and alpine vegetation.

Trails of varying difficulty lead to the summit and offer panoramic views of surrounding ranges; on clear days Mount Fuji can be visible from higher slopes. The mountain is popular with hikers from late spring through autumn, with alpine flowers in summer and coloured leaves in autumn.

Geologically the peak is of volcanic origin and it sits within the broader protected upland areas of central Nagano. Several trailheads and mountain huts serve ascents from nearby towns, and access is typically from trailheads served by local roads and buses.

Tateshina Yama lies on the border of municipalities in Nagano Prefecture, north of the Suwa Basin; the nearest regional towns provide trailhead access and basic services for visitors.

  • Elevation: Summit elevation is 2,531 metres, making it a prominent peak in the northern Yatsugatake area and a popular destination for day hikes in summer and for autumn foliage.
