Suwa Taisha is a Shinto shrine complex in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, composed of several separate shrine precincts around Lake Suwa that together form the principal shrine of the Suwa tradition. It is one of Japan’s historically important shrine institutions and retains a range of ritual roles and local festival practices.

The complex includes upper and lower shrine precincts, each containing main halls, subsidiary buildings and ritual areas used for regular worship and seasonal ceremonies. The shrine precincts are a short walk from Kami-Suwa Station. Driving from Matsumoto or Nagano city follows national routes through mountain passes; parking is available near the larger shrine complexes.

• Attend one of the major festivals (Reitaisai in June or the Onbashira festivals where applicable) to see the shrine at its busiest and most ceremonial - but expect crowds and restricted access to some inner areas.
• The nearby Suwa Taisha Museum (shrine museum) provides context and historic items rarely seen during ordinary visits.
