Tashilhunpo Monastery is a large Gelug Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Shigatse prefecture, established in the 15th century and known as the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama.

How to Get to Tashilhunpo Monastery #
Tashilhunpo Monastery is in Shigatse (Xigazê) city, Tibet. By road it is reached from Lhasa on China National Highway 318 (the Friendship Highway) heading west-Lhasa to Shigatse is approximately 270-300 km by road. There are also regular trains on the Lhasa-Shigatse railway from Lhasa to Shigatse.
From Shigatse railway station or the city centre it is a short taxi ride to the monastery (a 10-20 minute cab trip or a longer walk through the city); local buses and taxis serve the route within Shigatse.
