Tapantí National Park is a protected area in Cartago Province, Costa Rica, conserving montane and cloud-forest ecosystems. It protects important headwaters for rivers and preserves high-biodiversity forest.

The landscape contains steep forested slopes, fast-flowing streams and waterfalls, with trails that provide access for hiking and wildlife observation. The park is notable for high rainfall and lush vegetation.

Costa Rica established the protected area to conserve watershed values and native forest, integrating it into the country’s broader national park network for conservation and regulated public use.

The park is located in the highlands of Cartago Province in central Costa Rica, in the broader Orosí and Reventazón watershed region, southeast of the provincial capital.

  • Cloud-forest and watershed protection: The park protects high-rainfall montane and cloud-forest environments that are important for watershed protection and wildlife habitat.
  • Visitor practicalities: Good birdwatching and streamside trails are primary attractions; weather is often wet so waterproof clothing is advised.
