How to Get to Tangkuban Perahu #
Tangkuban Perahu is reached from Bandung (West Java) by road: drive north from Bandung through Lembang on the main access road (often signed Jl. Raya Tangkuban Perahu) to the crater entrance. The drive from central Bandung typically takes under an hour depending on traffic (roughly 20-30 km).
If you prefer public transport, take local minibuses/angkot from Bandung to Lembang and then a local taxi or minibus up the Tangkuban Perahu road to the crater parking area; from the parking area it’s a short walk to the main viewpoints.

- Go at first light for clearer views of the crater and to avoid peak-tourist numbers and heavier sulphur fumes that can build later in the day; the site is a short drive from Bandung so many day trips pack mid-morning crowds.
- Use the main visitor area and marked paths to Kawah Ratu for the standard crater viewpoint, then take the short walk to Kawah Domas (the Domas hot-spring/sulphur area) if you want a quieter, more geothermally interesting stop-local guides or porters are commonly available there.
- Check local conditions before you go (winds can blow ash/sulphur toward visitor areas) and prefer weekdays to avoid the weekend rush from Bandung and Jakarta visitors.
