How to Get to Tangkuban Prahu #
Tangkuban Prahu (Tangkuban Perahu) is north of Bandung in West Java. By car it’s commonly reached from Bandung via the Lembang road (Jl. Raya Lembang) - the drive is roughly 20-30 km from central Bandung and typically takes about 1-2 hours depending on traffic. Public transport: take an angkot or minibus from Bandung to Lembang and then a short local taxi/ojek ride up to the crater parking area; expect a short walk from the parking/visitor area to the main viewpoints.
Tips for Visiting Tangkuban Prahu #
- Get there at first light for the clearest crater views and to beat the bus tours that arrive later in the morning from Bandung.
- Enter through the park's main visitor/parking area at the crater rim (the primary Kawah viewpoint) to access the best lookout points rather than attempting side approaches.
- Be mindful of wind and sulfur fumes at active vents - stay on marked paths, follow park ranger instructions, and avoid lingering downwind of fumaroles where gas is strongest.
