The Tabriz Historic Bazaar Complex is a large, covered market in northwest Iran that has served as a commercial hub for centuries. It is composed of interconnected vaulted corridors, caravanserais and specialised market quarters.

Shops and merchant spaces are arranged by trade, with historic timchehs and vaulted aisles dedicated to textiles, carpets, jewelry and other goods. The bazaar retains its role as an active market while also attracting visitors for its architecture and historic fabric.

The bazaar developed and expanded over many centuries as Tabriz grew as a regional trading centre; it has been rebuilt several times after earthquakes and remains an evolving commercial and social space. Conservation efforts have focused on preserving vaulted roofs and historic timchehs.

The complex is located in central Tabriz in East Azerbaijan province and is integrated with the city’s older quarters, making it accessible from the urban centre.

• Covered bazaars and caravanserais: A network of covered caravanserais, passageways and merchant quarters forming the commercial core of historic Tabriz.

The bazaar sits in central Tabriz near the Arg-e Tabriz. It is a short taxi ride from Tabriz railway station (about 10-15 minutes) and is easily reached on foot from the historic center.

• Explore the covered lanes early in the morning when merchants open their shops; the light in the vaults is atmospheric.
• Seek out the tea-houses inside the bazaar - they are prime places for people-watching and older patron conversations.
• Visit the Amir Bazaar section for textiles and the Ardabil lane for traditional copperware; many shops are family-run and have been for generations.
