Synevyr refers to the mountain lake located in Zakarpattia Oblast in the Ukrainian Carpathians. It is the largest lake in the Ukrainian Carpathians and lies within a forested mountain setting.
The lake is part of the Carpathian National Nature Park and is a popular local destination for visitors to the region for short hikes and nature viewing. Surrounding terrain is typical Carpathian mixed forest and montane meadow.
Formed by natural geological processes, the lake and immediate surroundings are managed for conservation and low-impact tourism. It is located near the village of Synevyrska Poliana in western Ukraine.

How to Get to Synevyr #
Synevyr is about 40-50 km from the town of Khust; regional buses and minibuses (marshrutkas) run from Khust and Mizhhirya to the park entrance. Private car or organised tours from Uzhhorod or Lviv are common choices.
Tips for Visiting Synevyr #
- Arrive early to walk the boardwalk to the lake before tour buses arrive.
- Bring a waterproof layer - winds can whip up on the lake and fog rolls in quickly.
- Visit the small local ethnographic stalls around the park entrance for smoked cheese (brynza) and local honey.
Best Time to Visit Synevyr #
Best in summer for easy access and in early autumn for dramatic color and fewer crowds.
