About Polonynian Beskids#
The Polonynian Beskids are a subrange of the Eastern Carpathians in western Ukraine characterised by rounded mountains and extensive highland meadows known as polonyny. The landscape is defined by open, grassy ridgelines interspersed with forested slopes.
These mountains are medium-elevation and popular for hiking, pastoral activities and nature observation rather than alpine mountaineering. The polonyny are distinctive ecological and cultural features, historically used for seasonal grazing and mountain pastures.
Human use has traditionally been pastoral and rural, with small settlements in adjacent valleys and seasonal use of the high meadows. Trails and rural roads provide access for local tourism and shepherding activities.
The range lies in western Ukraine within the Eastern Carpathian system, forming part of a broader mountainous frontier region with mixed forest and meadow habitats.
