The Susa Valley (Val di Susa) is a broad Alpine valley in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy that forms one of the principal westward routes from the Turin plain toward the French border. It is an important geographical and transport corridor through the western Alps.

The valley is used for hiking and mountain activities, and it contains towns and villages that serve as bases for outdoor recreation and local culture. Road and rail routes run through the valley linking Turin with mountain passes and with cross-border connections to France.

The valley has been a transit route since antiquity and has seen successive development of roads, railways and tunnels across the modern era; its towns grew around these transport links and local trade.

Geographically the valley lies west of the city of Turin in Piedmont and extends toward the French border in the western Alps, encompassing a mix of valley floor settlements and high mountain passes.

Valle di Susa (Susa Valley) is accessed from Turin by the A32 (Torino-Bardonecchia) / SS24 heading west into the valley; the drive from Turin is roughly 40-60 minutes (around 40-50 km depending on your destination in the valley). Regional Trenitalia trains run from Torino Porta Susa/Porta Nuova along the Turin-Modane line to towns in the Susa Valley, and the SS24 road follows the valley for direct car or bus access.

• Plan activities for spring or early autumn if you want quieter trails and milder weather; summer brings more day‑trippers along the main Susa Valley routes.
• Use the regional train service from Turin to access towns like Susa or Oulx rather than driving the A32 if you prefer scenic travel and to avoid motorway traffic; local trains also let you hop between valley villages.
• Explore smaller side valleys and lesser-known hamlets off the main road to escape the busier, well-known sites - local tourist offices in valley towns can point you to quieter walks and mountain passes.
