Suraj Tal

Suraj Tal is a high-altitude alpine lake in the Lahaul and Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh in northern India. It is one of the higher elevation lakes encountered on the Leh-Manali route and is sometimes translated as “Sun Lake.”

The lake lies close to the Baralacha La mountain pass and is visited for its high-altitude scenery and as a roadside stop by travelers on the Leh-Manali highway during the warmer months. Clear water margins and surrounding barren, glaciated terrain characterize the immediate setting.

Suraj Tal is a natural glacial lake and has long been part of local mountain geography; it has not been substantially altered by large-scale construction and is known primarily as a natural landmark along the high Himalayan pass.

The lake sits near Baralacha La in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, on the route between Keylong and the high passes toward Leh; its location is at high elevation and reachable seasonally by road.
