Stymphalus (Arcadia) Archaeological Site

Stymphalus (ancient Stymphalos) was an ancient town in Arcadia in the Peloponnese, located beside Lake Stymphalus and known in classical sources and mythology.

The site is chiefly notable for its association with the Stymphalian birds from Greek myth and for references in ancient writers such as Pausanias. Remains of the ancient settlement and nearby sanctuaries lie close to the lake and modern agricultural land.

Archaeological traces attest to habitation and ritual activity in the classical and Hellenistic periods, including temples and town structures recorded by ancient authors.
