Sterkfontein is a fossil-bearing cave complex and archaeological site in Gauteng, South Africa, and forms part of the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. It is one of the world’s most important sites for early hominin fossils.

How to Get to Sterkfontein #

The Sterkfontein Caves (Cradle of Humankind) lie northwest of Johannesburg near Krugersdorp. The site is most easily reached by car from Johannesburg - expect roughly 45-60 minutes’ driving (about 40-60 km depending on start point).

There are also organized day tours from Johannesburg and Pretoria that include transfers; on-site facilities and parking are available at the visitor centre next to the caves.
