Stellenbosch University is a public research university in the Western Cape province of South Africa, established in 1918. The institution is located in the historic town of Stellenbosch and is noted for its central campus and integration with town architecture.

Stellenbosch University is in the centre of Stellenbosch town, Western Cape, about a 45-60 minute drive east of Cape Town (roughly 50 km). From Cape Town follow the N2 east then take the R44/R310 local roads into Stellenbosch; the campus is adjacent to the town centre and is a 5-15 minute walk from Stellenbosch station or central bus stops. There are regular intercity buses and some commuter rail service between Cape Town and Stellenbosch - from the town station the campus is within easy walking distance.

• Visit on a weekday outside exam and orientation weeks to see the campus in normal use by students and staff; weekends and graduation days are noticeably busier and services (cafés, offices) are more likely to be closed.
