The Stadium of Light is a football stadium in Sunderland, England, and the home ground of Sunderland A.F.C. It opened in 1997 and offers seating for roughly 49,000 spectators.

The ground was built to replace Sunderland’s former stadium, Roker Park, and was commissioned to provide a modern, higher-capacity venue for the club in the late 1990s. Its name references the local mining heritage.
It is located in the Monkwearmouth area of Sunderland on the north bank of the River Wear, in the county of Tyne and Wear in northeast England.
