St. Nicholas' Church

St. Nicholas’ Church (Niguliste) in Tallinn is a medieval church now functioning principally as a museum of ecclesiastical art and medieval culture. The building dates to the medieval period and is one of the principal historic churches in Tallinn’s Old Town.

Exhibits focus on late-medieval and early-modern ecclesiastical art, including altarpieces, panel paintings and liturgical objects. The church tower is also used as a viewpoint, offering visitors elevated views across the rooftops of Tallinn’s historic centre.

Founded in the medieval era and rebuilt and altered over centuries, the church was heavily damaged during World War II and later conserved and adapted as a museum space. Conservation efforts have stabilised surviving medieval interiors and important artworks for public display.

Niguliste sits within Tallinn’s compact Old Town (Vanalinn), within easy walking distance of the Town Hall Square and other major historic streets and landmarks.
