St George’s Chapel is a late Gothic chapel located within the Lower Ward of Windsor Castle in England and forms the principal place of worship for the castle. The present building dates largely from the late 15th and early 16th centuries and is closely associated with the British royal family.
The interior features closely spaced choir stalls, intricate fan-vaulting and numerous royal memorials and tombs, which are primary reasons people visit. The chapel hosts ceremonial services for the Order of the Garter and remains an active place of worship, so some areas may be closed for services and ceremonies.
The chapel was built as part of Windsor Castle and developed over the late medieval period to serve as a royal collegiate church and the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter. It has been altered and refurbished at various times but retains its late Gothic character.

St George’s Chapel is inside Windsor Castle in the town of Windsor. From London, take South Western Railway direct from London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside (about 55-60 minutes) or take Great Western Railway from London Paddington to Slough and change for Windsor & Eton Central; from either station it’s a short walk to the castle (roughly 10-20 minutes depending on which station you arrive at). By car the town is reached from central London via the M4 (take Junction 6) and the A332 into Windsor - roughly 22 miles (35 km) and about 40-60 minutes depending on traffic.
