San Sebastián’s food scene hums as restaurants return to indoor dining and hikers can enjoy quieter trails in the Picos de Europa with swollen waterfalls. Rain returns more frequently by late October; bring a mid-weight raincoat and waterproof footwear. Travelling outside school holidays gives you the best balance of weather and reduced crowds.

The Pyrenees & Pre-Pyrenees (Baqueira, Benasque, Aínsa)

October shifts toward autumnal weather: crisp mornings, shorter daylight and an increased chance of early snowfalls above roughly 1,800-2,000 metres.
