Space World was a space-themed amusement park in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, originally opened in 1990. It operated as a regional theme park focused on rides and family attractions until its permanent closure at the end of 2017.
The park’s grounds contained a mix of roller coasters, family rides and indoor exhibits arranged around a central plaza and themed zones. Typical visit highlights when open included thrill rides and seasonal events rather than museum-style displays, with attractions designed for a broad age range.
Space World was developed and run by a private company specifically as an amusement and leisure destination for the Kitakyushu area and wider Fukuoka region. Over its lifetime the park added and retired rides and hosted periodic seasonal shows before closing.
The site sat within Kitakyushu city on the island of Kyushu, close to the Mojiko area and accessible by road from central Kitakyushu and surrounding towns.
- Location tip: Located in the Higashi-ku area of Kitakyushu; easiest access is from Kokura and Mojiko by road or local train plus short taxi ride.

How to Get to Space World #
While the park is closed, the nearest public transport marker is JR Space World Station on the Kagoshima Main Line (Kitakyushu). The site is on the north side of Kitakyushu and was previously accessed by local buses and taxis from Kokura and Orio stations.
Tips for Visiting Space World #
- Do not expect park attractions to be operating - Space World ceased operations at the end of 2017 and the site has been redeveloped.
- For railway history and local amusement-park nostalgia, the JR Space World Station on the Kagoshima Main Line is still a useful visual marker in the area.
