Southern Ridges
Amusement Park Scenic 10km ridge walk connecting parks and bridges
A 10 km ridge-top trail linking Mount Faber, Telok Blangah and Kent Ridge via pedestrian bridges such as Henderson Waves; visitors come for skyline views, native flora, birdwatching and straightforward hilltop walks between parks.
The Southern Ridges is a linear green connector in southern Singapore linking a series of hill parks and landscaped gardens over roughly 10 kilometres. It brings together vegetated ridgelines and elevated walkways across several urban parks in the city-state.
The route includes a mix of paved trails, forested ridgelines and elevated pedestrian bridges, the most famous being the 274-metre Henderson Waves. Walkers can cover viewpoints and lookout points, with sections offering skyline and harbour panoramas and others shaded by mature trees.
The corridor was planned and is maintained as part of Singapore’s park and green-linking strategy to connect open spaces and provide recreational walking routes. Individual parks and structures were developed at different times and linked to form the continuous ridge walk.
The ridge run sits along the southern edge of Singapore’s main island, running roughly from Mount Faber and HarbourFront in the east to Kent Ridge in the west, passing through Telok Blangah Hill Park and HortPark along the way.
- Length: The continuous route is roughly 10 kilometres in total, made up of connected trails and elevated walkways.
- Signature structure: The 274-metre timber-and-steel **Henderson Waves** is the ridge's signature structure and offers panoramic city and harbour views, especially at dusk.
- Best time to visit: Early morning or late afternoon are the best times for cooler temperatures and bird activity along the wooded sections.
What to See #
- Henderson Waves: A sinuous elevated pedestrian bridge linking Mount Faber Park to Telok Blangah Hill Park, notable for its waved timber ribs and views across the city.
- Mount Faber Park: A hilltop park with views over HarbourFront and the city, forming the eastern end of the ridge-walk.
- Telok Blangah Hill Park: A wooded ridge park featuring landscaped trails and lookout points, sitting between Mount Faber and HortPark.
- Kent Ridge Park: A park on the western stretch of the ridge popular for native plantings and viewpoints over Singapore's southern shore.
- HortPark: A horticultural hub with themed gardens and demonstration plots that links into the ridge walk network.
How to Get to Southern Ridges #
By MRT and bus: Telok Blangah MRT (Circle Line) is the most convenient stop for Mount Faber and Henderson Waves; walk about 8-12 minutes from the station to the Mount Faber entrance. For the Kent Ridge/HortPark sections, Haw Par Villa and Pasir Panjang bus services (e.g., buses 10, 65, 123) connect nearby. By car: follow signs for Mount Faber Road or Labrador Nature Reserve; limited parking exists at some park entrances. The trail is walkable end-to-end but can be tackled in 2-3 shorter segments.
Tips for Visiting Southern Ridges #
- Start at Mount Faber for sunset and walk east across the Henderson Waves - the light is best around 6-7pm on clear days.
- Use the Telok Blangah MRT (Circle Line) and take the exit toward Telok Blangah Hill Park for the Mount Faber stretch; buses 61, 97 and 166 serve the area as well.
- Bring a torch or use a phone light if planning to walk after dark - some side paths have uneven steps and minimal lighting.
- Don't skip the signboards at HortPark; the themed gardens explain surprisingly specific plant provenance and the park is a quieter midpoint.
