Souss-Massa National Park is a protected area in southwestern Morocco on the Atlantic coast, south of the city of Agadir. It conserves coastal, estuarine and inland habitats and is important for migratory and resident bird species.

The park is especially known for supporting populations of the endangered northern bald ibis and for its coastal wetlands and dunes. Visitors commonly come for birdwatching and to view the park’s shoreline, estuaries and semi-arid landscapes.

The area was set aside to conserve the unique coastal ecosystems and species that depend on the mix of riverine, marshland and marine-influenced habitats. Management focuses on habitat protection and monitoring of key bird populations.

Souss-Massa lies along Morocco’s Atlantic coast, roughly to the south of Agadir, extending across coastal plains and into semi-arid inland areas. The park includes estuaries where rivers meet the sea and is accessible from coastal towns in the Souss-Massa region.

  • Key wildlife: The park protects coastal dunes, estuaries and inland steppe habitats and is internationally important for waterbirds, including colonies of the endangered northern bald ibis.
  • Birdwatching tips: Best birdwatching is at estuaries and coastal lagoons; mornings and late afternoons are often most productive for sightings.
