Songgwangsa is a major Buddhist temple complex in South Jeolla Province, South Korea, located on Jogyesan mountain. It is widely regarded as one of the principal centers of Korean Seon (Zen) Buddhism.
The temple has a long history as a center of Korean Seon practice and developed over many centuries into a large monastic complex. It became particularly prominent within Korean Buddhism for its role in training and sustaining the monastic community.
Songgwangsa sits on Jogyesan in South Jeolla Province in the southwest of the Korean peninsula, in a wooded mountainous area accessible from nearby towns in the province.
