Gochang, Hwasun and Ganghwa Dolmen Sites Historical Site

Gochang, Hwasun and Ganghwa Dolmen Sites are a collection of prehistoric megalithic monuments in South Korea representing large concentrations of dolmens used in funerary and ritual contexts. The three groups together illustrate regional diversity in megalithic construction.

Each cluster contains numerous dolmens composed of large upright stones supporting capstones or setting slabs in place. The sites provide clear examples of Bronze Age megalithic engineering and are laid out across upland ridges, plains and coastal terraces.

The dolmens were constructed during the prehistoric period, generally associated with burial and ritual practices of the 1st millennium BCE. The three areas preserve different types and arrangements of dolmen structures that reflect local traditions and social organisation.

The clusters are located in three counties - Gochang and Hwasun in South Jeolla Province and Ganghwa near the northwest coast - occupying distinct landscapes from interior hills to coastal islands.
