Soltaniyeh is an archaeological complex in Zanjan province, Iran, centered on a monumental early 14th-century mausoleum built for the Ilkhanid ruler Oljeitu. The site is noted for its massive brick-built dome and surviving architectural decoration from the Ilkhanid period.

The main monument is a large, octagonal masonry mausoleum capped by a high dome and decorated with tile and brick detailing; surrounding remains indicate a wider royal and ceremonial precinct. The structure demonstrates developments in dome construction and Persian masonry techniques during the Ilkhanid era.

Construction of the mausoleum took place in the early 1300s and it served as a dynastic tomb and a statement of Ilkhanid imperial power. Over time the complex has been damaged and conserved, but the main dome remains a defining historic monument.

The complex is located at Soltaniyeh in Zanjan province in northwest Iran, where the mausoleum dominates the archaeological landscape.

Soltaniyeh is reached by road from the regional city of Zanjan: drive roughly 30-35 km (about 30-45 minutes) from Zanjan on local provincial roads to the town of Soltaniyeh. Regular minibuses and taxis also run from Zanjan’s bus station to Soltaniyeh for visitors who do not drive.

• Visit the Tomb of Oljaytu early in the morning for cooler temperatures and softer light on the brickwork; mornings are typically quieter than late morning and early afternoon.
• Combine your stop at the dome with a walk around the octagonal base and exterior to study the brick patterning and structural ribs-many visitors only view the central interior and miss the exterior ornamentation that's best appreciated close-up.
• Aim for a weekday visit where possible; local weekend/holiday traffic brings more day-trippers from nearby cities, so weekday mornings are the least crowded.
