Sihlsee Lake

Sihlsee is an artificial reservoir in the Canton of Schwyz, Switzerland, formed by damming the Sihl river. It functions as a managed water body used for hydropower and river flow regulation and is a local recreational resource.

The lake’s shoreline and nearby trails are used for walking, cycling, boating and fishing, and the reservoir provides scenic views of the surrounding uplands. Facilities around the lake support day visitors rather than large-scale tourism.

By public transport, take regional trains to Einsiedeln (from Zurich with a change at Pfäffikon SZ or Wädenswil depending on routing) and then a local bus or short taxi drive to the Sihlsee lakeshore.

• Visit early on weekdays outside the peak summer months to find quieter stretches of shore and still-water reflections - weekends and July-August can be busy with local swimmers.
• Use the eastern shore trails or start from the Einsiedeln/Betschwanden side to access less-touristed hiking routes and viewpoints; local buses serve nearby points if you prefer to avoid parking at busy spots.
