Pulau Sibu, commonly called Sibu Island, is a small island off the east coast of Johor, Malaysia, in the South China Sea. It lies within the Mersing District and is a noted local destination for short-stay beach tourism and reef snorkeling.
Beaches, shallow coral reefs, and clear water are the main draws. There are a few small resorts and chalets offering overnight stays and day-trip facilities, plus basic visitor services on the island. Snorkeling and short recreational dives are the most common activities, with sheltered coves suitable for swimming.
The island has long been used by local fishermen; tourism development occurred gradually as boat access from the mainland increased. Today the island’s infrastructure is focused on low-rise resort accommodation and visitor amenities rather than large-scale development.
Geographically the island sits off the coast of Johor, to the east of the town of Mersing, in the waters of the South China Sea. Regular boat services depart from Mersing and nearby mainland jetties.
