The Shillong Plateau is an upland region in the Indian state of Meghalaya that forms the upland core around the city of Shillong. It is a distinct topographic block that influences local climate and drainage patterns.

The plateau offers highland scenery, forested hills, waterfalls and viewpoints; local attractions include lakes and reservoirs and a number of waterfalls and rock outcrops. The plateau is also the setting for Shillong town and its surrounding settlements, which provide access to natural sites.

The plateau is part of the broader Meghalaya uplands and has been shaped by tectonic uplift and erosion; it is traditionally inhabited by the Khasi people and other local communities. The area has long-standing local cultural landscapes rather than a single constructed landmark.

Geographically the Shillong Plateau occupies central Meghalaya in northeast India, with the city of Shillong near its center and forested hill country extending into surrounding districts.

Shillong is about 100-130 km from Guwahati (2.5-4 hours by car) via NH6. Regular buses and shared taxis run between Guwahati and Shillong. Once in Shillong, local roads access plateau viewpoints and nearby natural attractions.

• Visit during the end of monsoon (September-October) for clear views and lush landscapes.
