How to Get to Shijak
Shijak is a small town near Durrës on Albania's central coast; most visitors arrive via Tirana International Airport (TIA/Rinas) and continue by minibus, shared shuttle or taxi. There is no useful passenger train service to Shijak, so buses/minibuses are the main option.
Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza (TIA): The main international gateway for reaching Shijak. From TIA you can take a shared minibus, airport shuttle or taxi toward Durrës/Shijak; transfers typically take about 20-40 minutes. Shared shuttle or minibus fares are commonly in the €2-€6 range per person; taxis cost more (roughly €15-€30 depending on time and negotiation).
Rinas (airport area served by TIA): The airport is often referenced as Rinas; there are frequent minibuses and private transfers that run between the airport and nearby coastal towns including Shijak and Durrës.
Train: Albania’s passenger rail network is very limited and does not serve Shijak directly; there are no reliable long-distance passenger train services to the town.
Bus: The most common option is regional minibuses and buses from Tirana and Durrës. Buses/minibuses from Tirana bus terminals or the airport go toward Shijak and Durrës in about 20-40 minutes; fares are low (a few euros). Intercity buses connect Durrës with other Albanian cities and are useful if arriving overland.
