Seurasaari is an island and outdoor museum just off the coast of Helsinki that displays traditional Finnish wooden buildings and rural ways of life. It functions as both a park and a cultural heritage site.

The island features a collection of relocated cottages, farm buildings and other vernacular structures arranged along walking paths, with costumed guides and demonstrations during summer months. It is also a recreational green space popular for walking and picnics.

Established in the early 20th century to preserve examples of traditional Finnish architecture, buildings were moved to the island from various regions to create an open-air museum representing rural life.

Located a few kilometres from central Helsinki and connected to the mainland by bridge, Seurasaari sits in the western archipelago area of the city and is easily reached by road or public transport.

Public transport: local buses serving the Töölö/Seurasaari area stop a short walk from the park entrance (walk from the nearest stop typically a few hundred metres). In summer there are also pedestrian routes from nearby residential areas.

• Go early on weekdays or later in the afternoon to enjoy quieter paths - Seurasaari is a popular local picnic spot and gets busy on fine weekend days.
• Check seasonal opening times for the museum buildings (they're often only open in summer); the island itself is always accessible, but the historic houses are not always staffed.
• Follow the island's full loop trail to see the dispersed collection of farmhouses and chapels; many visitors linger near the main causeway and miss quieter corners and shoreline views.
