Vojvodina (Northern Plains)
April mornings are often damp with lingering soil moisture and frequent showers that lift pollen levels; allergy sufferers should be prepared. Daytime warmth grows quickly, and Fruška Gora’s trails are muddy but green - ideal for photographers after rain. Novi Sad starts to fill with locals enjoying outdoor cafés, but expect unpredictable interludes of rain and gusts that can make a river cruise on the Danube choppy.
Belgrade & Šumadija (Central Lowlands)
April’s warmth pushes back winter properly: trees leaf out, city parks are green and the hills around Topola show early growth. Occasional heavy showers can still interrupt plans, but afternoons are pleasant for exploring Belgrade’s outdoor attractions and boat trips along the Danube. Tourist numbers are low-to-moderate; it’s a good window to see monasteries in Šumadija before summer heat and crowds.
Western Highlands & Mountain Resorts (Zlatibor, Tara, Kopaonik)
April can feel like two seasons at once in the highlands: muddy lower trails and persistent snowfields higher up, especially on Kopaonik. The thaw swells waterfalls in Tara National Park and makes for dramatic canyon views, but some high mountain roads and lifts close for maintenance. Spring is quieter and cheaper for lodging, yet be prepared for cold mornings and late snowstorms that can still disrupt hikes.
Southern & Southeastern Serbia (Niš, Leskovac, Vranje)
April is a particularly pretty month in the south when orchards are in blossom and the lowland heat hasn’t yet set in. Day trips to Sicevo Gorge and Devil’s Town are rewarded with comfortable walking weather, though sudden storms can still happen. Pack a light rain jacket and enjoy the quieter town festivals and open-air markets that come back to life.
Eastern Serbia & the Danube Gorge (Đerdap, Bor, Negotin)
April brings brighter weather and the gorge’s cliffs catch more light, which is ideal for boat trips where they run; waterfalls and streams swell from snowmelt upstream. Vineyards around Negotin start pruning and early blossoms can be seen on orchards - a lively pre-harvest season. Rain showers are still possible, so waterproof footwear and a light jacket are smart for daily outings.
