About Sendlinger Tor#
Sendlinger Tor is a medieval city gate in Munich and one of the three principal surviving gates from the historic city fortifications.
The gate’s twin towers and brick gatehouse are a conspicuous city landmark at Sendlinger Torplatz, which today is a busy pedestrian and transport hub. The site is a common meeting point and photo subject for visitors exploring Munich’s old town.
Constructed as part of Munich’s medieval fortifications in the early 14th century, the gate has been altered and restored over time but retains its historic form as one of the city’s surviving gateways.
Located on Sendlinger Straße in central Munich, the gate stands south of Marienplatz and is integrated with the city’s U-Bahn and tram network.
