Semera is remote and best reached by a combination of domestic flight (when available) and road transfer, or by a long overland drive from Addis Ababa. Infrastructure in Afar is limited, so plan logistics and permits in advance.

By Air

Asmara / Addis Ababa (ADD): Semera is in the Afar Region and does not have large international airport service. Most international travellers fly into Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) and then continue by domestic flight or road. Domestic flights to airports closer to Semera (when available) reduce road time; otherwise prepare for a long overland transfer from Addis Ababa.
