Schwarzhorn (Flüela) Mountain

Schwarzhorn (Flüela) is an alpine mountain in the canton of Grisons (Graubünden), eastern Switzerland, located near the Flüela Pass. It is part of the high Alpine landscape of the Rhaetian Alps and forms a visible summit above the pass road.

The mountain is primarily visited by hikers and alpine walkers from the Flüela Pass or neighbouring valleys; routes are typical alpine trails with rocky sections and seasonal snow. Views from the ridge take in surrounding peaks and the valley systems of eastern Graubünden.

As a natural mountain it does not have built heritage but has been used for traditional alpine grazing and seasonal recreational use; safety depends on alpine experience and weather conditions. The summit and approaches lie within the high-mountain areas accessible from the Flüela road corridor and local trail network.

Geographically the peak stands in eastern Switzerland near the Flüela Pass, linking the Davos region with the Engadine and surrounding valleys.

• Access from Flüela Pass: Close access from the Flüela Pass makes it a common objective for day hikers and ski tourers when conditions permit.

The Schwarzhorn (Flüela) is accessed from the Flüela Pass area in Graubünden. Drive from Davos up (or from the Engadin side) along the Flüelapass road to the pass parking area; from there marked alpine trails lead toward Schwarzhorn (this is a mountain hike). In summer months PostBus/regional bus services may run from Davos to the pass; check seasonal timetables. Be prepared for alpine conditions and limited services outside summer.

• Start from the Flüela Pass road (Flüelapass) where the usual trailheads and parking are located-this is the standard, shortest access for Schwarzhorn (Flüela).
• Begin very early in summer to get ahead of afternoon alpine storms and to avoid the small but steady flow of hikers arriving later in the day.
• Check seasonal access: Flüela Pass is often closed or snowbound in winter and early spring, so confirm the pass road is open before planning an ascent.
