Schloßplatz (Berlin)

Schlossplatz is a central public square in Berlin-Mitte located at 52.5175°N, 13.4028°E, occupying the historic site of the former Berlin City Palace and now dominated by the rebuilt palace complex.

The site was long dominated by the original Berlin Palace, heavily damaged in World War II and later removed under East German administration. The late 20th and early 21st century saw demolition of postwar structures and a reconstruction project that recreated the palace facades and inserted new cultural spaces, completed in the late 2010s.

Schlossplatz sits on the northern bank of the Spree in central Berlin, between Unter den Linden and the Museum Island district, within short walking distance of Brandenburg Gate and Alexanderplatz.

• Lustgarten: A historic public lawn and park directly adjacent to the palace, used as a public gathering space and overlooked by museum facades.
• St. Hedwig's Cathedral: A Roman Catholic cathedral on the square's edge, built in the 18th century and visible from the plaza, providing an architectural counterpoint to the palace.
