Scarborough Castle is a coastal medieval fortress in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England, occupying a rocky headland above the town and harbour and visible across the seafront.

The castle dates to the medieval period when coastal strongholds were constructed to control ports and maritime approaches; it saw military use and alteration across successive centuries and retains structural elements from different historical phases. In later centuries the site fell into ruin and is now conserved as a heritage site.

The castle sits on a prominent headland at Scarborough on England’s North Sea coast, immediately above the town’s harbour and within walking distance of the seafront and central Scarborough.

• Gatehouse and earthworks: The gatehouse and approach earthworks on the landward side, which show the castle’s defensive layout and provide walking routes around the headland.

Scarborough town center is a short walk from the train station; the castle sits on Castle Road above the seafront and is a 10-15 minute uphill walk from the station or seafront promenade. Local buses stop near the town center.

• Walk the ramparts at first light when the wind is usually calmer and the sea-glow soft-better photo light and fewer visitors.
• Read the 13th‑century visitor board in the keep to understand how the castle's role shifted from royal fortress to prison to artillery fort.
