How to Get to Sassandra
Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport (ABJ): Abidjan is Ivory Coast’s main international airport and the main gateway for travel to Sassandra. From Abidjan you continue by road (coach or car) toward Sassandra - the coastal trip takes several hours and is best done by scheduled coach or private transfer.
San Pédro Airport (SPY): San Pédro is a closer regional airport on the west coast; from there you continue by road to Sassandra by regional bus or private vehicle.
Train: National passenger rail services in Ivory Coast are limited; rail is not a practical option for reaching Sassandra.
Bus / Coach: Long-distance coaches and bush taxis run along the coast linking Abidjan, San Pédro and Sassandra. These are the normal options for intercity travel; schedules can vary and travel times are several hours depending on road conditions.
How to Get Around Sassandra #
Sassandra’s compact harbour area is easily explored on foot; for longer journeys you’ll find bush taxis (taxi-brousse) and shared minibuses. Local boat transport serves fishing and short coastal trips. Taxis are inexpensive but services may be irregular; ask locally about schedules and prices before setting off. Roads outside town can be rough during the rainy season.
