How to Get to Sari, Iran

Sari is served by Dasht-e Naz Airport (SRY) for domestic flights and by regular rail and intercity bus links to Tehran and other northern cities. International visitors normally change planes in Tehran (Mehrabad or Imam Khomeini) and continue to Sari by a domestic flight, train, or bus.

By Air

Dasht-e Naz Airport (SRY): Dasht-e Naz is Sari’s local airport, about 10-15 km from the city centre. The fastest option is a taxi or private transfer (approx. 15-25 minutes); expect roughly 200,000-400,000 IRR for a fixed airport taxi fare or slightly less for shared minibus services. There are occasional shuttle minibuses and private transfers available from the terminal, but services can be infrequent outside scheduled flight times.

Tehran (Mehrabad THR / Imam Khomeini IKA): International travellers usually connect through Tehran. From Mehrabad (domestic hub) you can take a short domestic flight to Sari (flight ~45-60 minutes) or travel overland by train or bus from Tehran to Sari. Overland journeys take roughly 4-6 hours by train or bus; see the Train & Bus card for typical prices and schedules.

By Train & Bus

Train: Sari is served by Sari Railway Station (Istgah-e Rah Ahan-e Sari) on Iran’s northern rail corridor. Regular day and overnight trains run between Tehran (Tehran Railway Station) and Sari; journey times are typically around 4-7 hours depending on the service and stops. Ticket prices vary by class and service (approximately 300,000-1,000,000 IRR depending on seat/sleeper and booking time), and advance booking is recommended for holidays.

Bus: Long-distance buses arrive and depart from the Sari Passenger Terminal (terminal-e safar/madar), with frequent services to Tehran, Gorgan, Mashhad and other Mazandaran cities. Buses to Tehran usually take 4-6 hours and cost roughly 200,000-600,000 IRR depending on service type (VIP/minibus/standard). Shared taxis (savari) and minibuses also operate on popular regional routes and can be cheaper for last‑minute travel.
