Säntis is a prominent mountain in the Alpstein range of northeastern Switzerland, rising to 2,502 metres and acting as the highest peak in the Appenzell Alps. It is a major regional viewpoint with an exposed summit and a permanent weather station.

Visitors use the cable car from Schwägalp to reach the summit station, where there are viewing platforms and interpretation panels that describe the panorama. On clear days the summit offers sweeping views across surrounding Alpine ranges and, reportedly, visibility into several neighbouring countries.

The peak has long been used for meteorological observations and radio communications; facilities at the top include the weather observatory and visitor amenities that support year-round access.

Säntis sits in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden in northeastern Switzerland, above the Schwägalp pass and reachable by road and cable car from the surrounding valleys and towns.

Public PostBus services run to Schwägalp from nearby towns; by car it’s approximately a 30-45 minute drive from St. Gallen depending on route and traffic.

• Take the early cable car from Schwägalp (or go on a weekday morning) to secure a clear-sky window for the panoramic views - weather can change quickly at Säntis, so early tends to be more stable.
• Check the summit weather and visibility forecasts before you travel; on clear days the panorama reaches into neighbouring countries, but cloud can roll in rapidly and obscure views.
• Allow time to explore the ridge and lower walking paths rather than just the summit platform - many visitors miss short walks that offer different perspectives and quieter photo spots.
