How to Get to San Gimignano
San Gimignano has no rail station; most visitors arrive via Pisa or Florence airports and use a mix of regional trains and SITA buses (or direct buses from Florence) to reach the town. The final bus leg from Poggibonsi or Florence is straightforward and frequent in tourist season.
Pisa International Airport (PSA): Pisa is the closest international airport and well connected to San Gimignano via rail and bus. From Pisa Centrale take a regional train to Poggibonsi (via Empoli/Certaldo) then a SITA bus to San Gimignano; total journey time around 1-1.5 hours. Regional train fares typically range from €4-10 depending on route.
Florence Airport (FLR): Florence (Peretola) is also convenient. From Florence Santa Maria Novella (SMN) you can take a direct SITA bus or a train to Poggibonsi and a short bus on to San Gimignano; travel time is about 1-1.25 hours and direct bus fares commonly cost around €6-8.
Train: There is no direct rail station in San Gimignano. The nearest mainline station is Poggibonsi (Poggibonsi-S.G.) served by regional trains from Florence and Pisa; from Poggibonsi the SITA bus completes the trip.
Bus: SITA and regional bus services run from Poggibonsi and Florence to San Gimignano; direct buses from Florence SMN take about 70-80 minutes and are the simplest public option. Bus tickets are sold at stations and newsstands-keep schedules in mind, especially outside high season.

San Gimignano’s historic centre is almost entirely pedestrian and very walkable; expect cobbled streets and steep sections.
