San Agustin Church in Intramuros, Manila, is the oldest stone church in the city and a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the Baroque Churches of the Philippines. The current masonry church was completed in the early 1600s and has retained much of its original fabric and decoration.

The carved stone altar, ornate ceiling paintings and a collection of colonial-era religious objects displayed in the adjoining museum. The building survived several earthquakes and wartime destruction that affected other structures in Intramuros.

The church was constructed and maintained by the Augustinian order during the Spanish colonial period and has functioned continuously as a parish and religious centre since the 16th and 17th centuries. The attached convent and museum document the church’s history and Spanish-era religious practice.

  • UNESCO and age: The church is part of the UNESCO-listed group 'Baroque Churches of the Philippines' and is the oldest stone church in Manila, completed in its present form in the early 17th century.
  • Visitor notes: Guided visits to the museum and church interior are available; photography rules and modest dress are commonly requested inside the church.
