High / low are average daily temperatures (°C). “Feels” reflects how hot or cold it feels, allowing for humidity.
Upolu - Apia & North Coast
By mid-February the wet season often feels at its peak - long, heavy rains and thunderstorms roll through the north coast and Apia more than once a day. Coastal roads can develop potholes and low-lying shops around the wharf sometimes experience flash flooding, so allow extra time for transfers to ferry terminals. Temperatures remain high with very muggy nights; snorkeling at Palolo Deep is possible on calm windows but storms can quickly close visibility.
Upolu - South Coast & Aleipata (Lalomanu, To-Sua)
The south coast often experiences some of the island’s heaviest individual showers in February, with afternoons dominated by thunder and brief flooding on low-lying coastal roads. To-Sua and the white sands of Lalomanu can still shine between storms; however, strong surf and swell from cyclones or low-pressure systems may make swimming dangerous. Choose beachfront stays with local guidance and avoid exposed reef swims after big storm cells.
Upolu - Interior Highlands and River Valleys
The highlands stay saturated in February, with frequent heavy showers keeping ridges misty and rivers full; villages inland can become harder to reach if low bridges flood. The rainforest is alive and dense, a perfect time for waterfall chasing around Blue Hole areas, but some trails become impassable. Packing waterproof gear and allowing extra travel time for bush roads are essential; guided hikes offer safer, more reliable options.
Savai’i - Islandwide (Salelologa, Afu Aau, Alofaaga Blowholes)
February keeps Savai’i in the wet season’s grip - dramatic thunderstorms and high humidity are common, with the interior rainforest dripping and river crossings dangerous after squalls. The island is spectacularly green, and Afu Aau waterfall is at its most impressive, but inland tracks often close. Ferry and small-boat services are more likely to be disrupted so book conservatively and maintain flexible connections in your itinerary.
Manono & Apolima - Small Outer Islets
The outer atolls see frequent heavy squalls in February with the winds and seas sometimes rough; docking at Manono or Apolima can be choppy and local boats may cancel runs. The islands’ low elevation means little protection from rain-driven winds, so expect simple village hospitality and plan for wet conditions. Pack waterproof bags for luggage and be ready for basic amenities during storm-affected periods.
