Visitors typically explore the surviving stone walls and towers and use the site as a viewpoint; trails lead up the hill and the summit provides wide panoramas over the surrounding countryside. The ruins include curtain walls and fragments of fortified structures concentrated on the rock outcrop.
The fortress dates from the medieval period and was part of the network of hilltop castles that defended the region; over subsequent centuries it fell into ruin and today remains as an archaeological and touristic ruin.
The site sits near the town of Salgótarján in Nógrád County, close to Hungary’s northern border with Slovakia, and is approached via local roads and footpaths.

How to Get to Salgó Castle #
