Saint Sophia Cathedral, Kyiv

Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv is an 11th-century Orthodox cathedral founded in the Kievan Rus period and associated with Grand Prince Yaroslav the Wise; it is a UNESCO World Heritage site for its architecture and medieval mosaics. The cathedral is one of the principal monuments of early East Slavic Christianity and state formation.

Key visitor highlights are the interior mosaics and frescoes dating from the 11th century that remain in situ, along with period architectural elements of the cathedral complex. Many visitors also ascend the nearby bell tower for panoramic views over the Podil and Dnipro river areas.
