How to Get to Saint François

Saint-François (Grande-Terre) is most easily reached from Pointe-à-Pitre Le Raizet airport (PTP). Public bus options exist but are limited; most visitors prefer rental cars, taxis or shared transfers for reliable door-to-door travel.

By Air

Pointe-à-Pitre Le Raizet (PTP): Pointe-à-Pitre is the main international airport for Guadeloupe. From PTP you can reach Saint-François by taxi or rental car in about 35-50 minutes (typical taxi fares are roughly €50-€80 depending on luggage and time of day). Several car-rental companies operate at the airport; renting a car is the most practical option for visiting Saint-François and the east coast.

Les Saintes / Other local airfields: There are no regular scheduled flights into Saint-François itself; inter-island flights (to Les Saintes or Marie-Galante) operate from smaller airfields or by boat services based in Pointe-à-Pitre or nearby ports.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no rail network in Guadeloupe.

Bus / Road: Public bus services on Grande-Terre are limited and can be slow; the common low-cost option for longer trips is the shared taxi (taxi collectif) or intercity bus lines when available. From Pointe-à-Pitre you can catch regional buses or shared taxis toward Sainte-Anne and Saint-François - journeys typically take around 40-60 minutes and fares for shared transport are generally low (single digits to low tens of euros). Renting a car or taking a private transfer is the most reliable option outside peak tourist areas.

How to Get Around Saint François #

Saint François (Guadeloupe) is a small coastal town and the centre is easy to walk, especially around the marina, shops and beaches. To see more of the island you’ll typically need a car or a taxi; intercity buses exist but can be infrequent.

Taxis and car rentals are the most practical options for exploring neighbouring beaches, golf courses and inland sights. Plan extra time for transfers and check schedules in advance during low season.

Where to Eat in Saint François #

Nightlife in Saint François #

Nightlife in Saint François is relaxed: marina-side bars, a handful of restaurants and occasional live-music nights are the norm rather than a club scene. Things get livelier during tourist season and special events.

If you want late-night options or bigger venues, plan to travel to larger towns on the island or check the marina’s event listings for seasonal parties.

Shopping in Saint François #

Shopping in Saint François centers on the marina area and small local shops that sell beachwear, souvenirs and local food products. There’s also a weekly market where produce, spices and local handicrafts turn up on market days.
