Saghamo Lake is a freshwater lake in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region of southern Georgia, located on the Javakheti Plateau near the village of Saghamo. It is one of several plateau lakes in this sparsely populated part of the country.
The shoreline and marshy edges are used by birdwatchers and naturalists; the lake and adjacent wetlands support waterfowl and other wetland species, especially during spring and autumn migration. Facilities are minimal so visits are typically short walks or drives from the nearby village.
The lake is a natural feature of the Javakheti volcanic plateau and has no recorded foundation or construction history. Its size and depth have varied with seasonal precipitation and local drainage over time.
Saghamo Lake sits on the high Javakheti Plateau in southern Georgia, close to the small settlement of Saghamo and within the administrative region of Samtskhe-Javakheti. The surrounding landscape is open upland steppe and volcanic highland.
- Access: Located immediately beside the village of Saghamo, access is usually by local road and footpaths from the village.
- Birdwatching seasons: Seasonal birdlife attracts observers most strongly in spring and autumn during migration.
